Hundred Hills Preamble N2, 2020 English Sparkling wine

From an Oxfordshire winery that produces clean, clear vintages that are a true expression of terroir.

A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that brings a bouquet of quince and ripe pear, and has flavours of ripe stone fruits, tangerine and a hint of almond. A great aperitif with nibbles and finger food, or as an accompaniment to a cheese and charcuterie board.

2016 Le Soula Blanc, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes

A wine that showcases the remarkable freshness and character that this high-altitude terroir in the eastern Pyrenees brings to its old-vine whites.

Barrel-aged for 22 months, this esoteric blend of grape varieties – Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, Grenache Blanc and Macabeo, among others – is fresh and taut with a bit of tannic grip, expressing minerality and aromatic complexity. Think greengage, orange blossom and wild fennel.

The wine’s balance of texture and acidity means it’ll complement that turkey beautifully. Or, equally, a mushroom wellington or roast salmon.

Margaux du Château Margaux 2019

Embodies this long-standing and world-famous Château’s enduring commitment to quality and tradition. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the bouquet is floral, fruity, subtly spiced, and on the palate the texture is smooth and silky, with beautifully well-rounded tannins and a long, aromatic finish. One to

pair with classic Christmas meats – roast beef, say, or duck or game – earthy dishes with wild mushrooms, or indeed with a soft mild cheese like Brie.

Already irresistibly delicious, this wine’s harmonious structure and refined tannins mean it also has impressive ageing potential, so your dilemma this Christmas might be: do I serve it – or save it?
