Black Forest Gateau Bar 2026

Heston is of course famous for his ultra-creative retro-reinventions, like his Black Forest Gateau that draws on the complex kirsch aromas he noticed while walking in the forest there.

Now he’s transformed the Gateau again – into the world’s first multisensory chocolate bar.

An elegant and indulgent layering of rich dark chocolate, tart cherry jam, luxurious white and dark chocolate ganaches enriched with kirsch, and a crunchy almond and cherry layer, with a spray bottle of kirsch to further stimulate the senses, and perhaps spritz your bar too.

At the Fat Duck, as part of Heston’s multisensory culinary concept, we often use spray bottles to stimulate the sense of smell and add a dimension to a dish.

Before diners tuck in, the waiters spritz a little of the scent above and in front of the head for maximum aroma (carefully avoiding contact with the eyes). We suggest you do the same, and perhaps spritz the bar too.
